College Student Sunday Routine

Sunday...

For some it's the awaited end of a week.

For others it’s a fresh beginning.

For me Sunday is the day of reset, relaxation, and preparation. Sunday for me is a break of sorts. I don't view it as an end or a beginning but instead as a breath of fresh air and a chance to reflect on both the past and upcoming weeks.

Sundays can look different for me depending on...

  • How much homework I have

  • How much studying I need to get done

  • If I have plans with family or friends

  • How I am feeling

Every week looks a little different and how the week before and the week ahead look will depend on how I can spend my Sunday. Sometimes I can do absolutely nothing productive, but I still have some routine and other times I am completely productive; still following my baseline routine.

I am a person who thrives on routine, most people can relate to this because routine and consistency are a part of human nature. Each day, but primarily Sunday, I have a baseline routine which consists of tasks that I do no matter how productive my Sunday is.

The tasks that make up my baseline Sunday routine are...

  • Grocery shopping. I just enjoy it so much and it is just an essential part of my day.

  • Look back at my planner from the prior week to make sure I didn’t miss anything important. Sometimes I miss an assignment or a task that I now need to complete either that Sunday or the upcoming week.

  • Look ahead at my planner to prepare myself mentally and physically for the week ahead.

  • Clean my space. I can NOT work in a mess.

  • Take time to watch Netflix or YouTube or even read a book. Basically, I take time for something I simply just enjoy.

I highly recommend naming what tasks make up your baseline routine. You might find that your baseline needs some adjusting or you might find that your baseline is what's keeping you sane. We often don’t even realize that we have a baseline routine.

Now, baseline aside it is important to note that I, at times, will have a highly productive Sunday, a moderately productive Sunday, or a Sunday that is lacking productivity all together. All these options are perfectly OKAY. We can't be productive 100% of the time, we all need to have a balance.

Here are what various Sundays for me, as a pre-medical college student, looks like.

A typical (highly-moderately) Productive Sunday for me includes

  • Grocery shopping

  • Organizing the fridge and pantry

  • Prepping any food, I will need throughout the week

  • Planning workouts for the week

  • Studying for upcoming assessments

  • Completing some homework assignments

  • Workout

  • Work on blog content

  • Cleaning my room, closet, and bathroom

  • Watching a little bit of YouTube and Netflix or maybe reading a book.

A Sunday with little productivity for me includes

  • Grocery shopping

  • Arrange my food in the fridge so I can see what I have. (I don’t always prep because I don’t always feel like taking the time.)

  • A trip to target (for no reason except for the fact that I LOVE TARGET.)

  • Lots of Netflix and YouTube (I've been watching greys anatomy on Netflix and my favorite YouTubers currently are @Rachel Ratke, @Ava Jules, @Maddie Mae Sasse, and @Lindsay Rae.

Finding and having routine is so important to me because it makes me feel like I have some control over my life. And like I said routine is human nature. You might have some routine components that you didn’t even realize were a part of your routine. If you happen to not have any routine, I suggest you try a simple one out and see how it goes.

Keep in mind whether you have a productive Sunday or not that it's okay. There is this social expectation that we all need to always be our best and most productive selves but guess what? THAT IS NOT REALISTIC. Don’t let the grind culture make you feel like this expectation is valid and realistic. Grind culture amongst pre-med students and amongst college students in general is prominent and often extremely toxic.

Work on homework, go to target, read a book, go workout, do whatever you need to do or simply just whatever you want to do. Try, alongside me, to view Sundays as neither an end nor a beginning but rather as that breath of fresh air.

Thank you all for being here.

Love,

Chasadea.
